Nerve Conduction Studies
Electromyography
Physiatrists have special training in
electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies. Electromyography is an electrodiagnostic test that measures the amount of nerve impulses during a muscle movement. Electromyography helps doctors diagnose muscle and nerve disease. Electromyography and nerve conduction studies are commonly performed at the same time.
Nerve Conduction Velocity Tests
Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) Tests are electrodiagnostic tests that measure how well nerves work. Nerve Conduction Velocity Tests help doctors identify the site of nerve compression. Physiatrists use the information from nerve conduction studies to help diagnose problems, plan treatments, and direct care plans for physical therapists and occupational therapists.
