Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. MRI imaging uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures.
MRI is very sensitive to motion. Patients must lay still during the exam. The MRI makes loud knocking noise that sounds like a jackhammer during the scan. No jewelry, dental work, or metal objects can be worn during the scan. You will be in a short open ended tunnel. If you are Claustrophobic, please let your ordering physician know when the MRI is scheduled. Patients with pacemakers, defibrillators, spinal column stimulators, cochlear implants and some types of brain aneurysms CAN NOT have an MRI. Please let your ordering physician know if you have any of the above, if they order an MRI.
